Vice-chancellor of Himachal Pradesh University (HPU) Sikander Kumar said blood donation helps in eradication of caste-based discrimination in society.

Inaugurating a blood donation camp, organised by a non-government organisation (NGO) Umang Foundation to mark Valmiki Jayanti at the varsity campus, the V-C pledged to donate his eyes along with 30 other persons.

As many as 60 persons donated blood at the camp. The V-C lauded the efforts of the foundation in the field of social service.

The member of HPU Executive Council Ajai Srivastava said blood donation should be an essential part of the people's lives as it not only saves lives but demolishes the artificial barriers of caste, colour and religion.

The donors included teachers, employees and a large number of students. Members of Valmiki Sabha with its former general secretary Raj Pal were also present.
