BMS holds rally to press for charter of demands

The Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS) today said that Finance Minister Arun Jaitley has assured it to look into its demands such as income tax exemption up to Rs 5 lakh and minimum monthly pension of Rs 3,000.

The BMS submitted their memorandum of demands to Jaitley, who is also chairman of a ministerial panel on labour issues, after a rally to Parliament to draw government's attention towards issues related to workers in various sector, the union said in a statement.

The BMS claimed that lakhs of wokers participated in the rally from Ramlila Maidan and Ambedkar Bhawan to Parliament.

The rally converged into a public meeting at Parliament Street which was addressed by the BMS leaders. Later a delegation of the BMS met Jaitley to submit its memorandum.
 

The main demands of the union include minimum pension of Rs 3,000 per month under the Employees Pension Scheme 1995 and income tax exemption of Rs 5 lakh per annum.

Besides the union has also asked the government to nominate representatives of labour and farmers on NITI Aayog and stop privatisation and disinvestment of public sector undertakings.
