Boar meet seized in Kendrapara

Wildlife personnel have made a seizure of eight kg wild boar raw meat and arrested a man during a raid in a village close to Bhitarkanika wildlife sanctuary in Odisha's Kendrapara district.

Acting on a tip-off, the seizure was made at Bhopala villageunder Sasanapeta forest block under Bhitarkanika wildlife sanctuary yesterday, forest officials said.

The accused - Jagannath Nayak - has confessed that he along with three other accomplices had killed the boar. They indulged in poaching of deer and boars and traded in animals' meat, they said.

Search is on to nab three persons involved in the said poaching incident. The accused booked under wildlife protection act, 1972 provisions was later remanded to judicial custody, said forest officials.
 

The forest department has intensified vigil on poaching activity with formation of special squads. Stray cases of poaching have come to light recently, but the department has resolved to ensure animals' safety, said Divisional Forest Officer, Rajnagar Mangrove (wildlife) division, Bimal Prassana Acharya.
