A mishap was today averted after 20 persons were rescued in boat accident in Ichhapur area, police said.
The boat collapsed while it was ferrying passengers. All of them were rescued, they said.
"There have been no reports of injuries and no one is missing in the accident. Ferry service in the area has been closed for now," Sub-divisional officer Pijush Goswami said.
"An amount of Rs 10 lakh has also been given by the Transport department to repair the ghats in the area," Goswami said.
A jetty collapsed yesterday in the Hooghly river at Bhadreswar in Hooghly district killing five persons.
