Bodh Gaya temple management contest IT notice

Served with Income Tax notice, the Bodh Gaya Temple Management Committee (BTMC) today submitted that it is a government-appointed body that receives money by way of donation which is legally free of tax.

A senior officer of BTMC submitted its reply to the Income Tax office here, Committee member Arvind Kumar Singh told PTI.

He said the IT office would hear the issue on October 23.

The IT department had on September 18 last served a notice to Bodh Gaya temple committee asking it to submit is PAN number and details about the annual IT returns.

The office of the Deputy Commissioner of Income Tax Gaya had served the notice to the committee looking after world famous Buddhist shrine at Bodh Gaya under the IT Act.
 

The BTMC member said that similar notices were given to the committee in 2008 and 2012 and it had submitted the same arguments then also.

The Mahabodhi temple, where Gautam Buddha had attained enlightenment and which recently witnessed a terror attack, is visited by a large number of devotees particularly from Sri Lanka.
