Odisha Police today buried the bodies of eight unidentified Maoist ultras, while five other bodies identified by villagers were cremated in the presence of their family members and magistrates.

Thirteen Maoists, including a woman, were killed in an encounter between security personnel and the extremists at Silakota forest under Padia block of Malkangiri district on the Odisha-Chhattishgarh border on September 14.

Earlier, five bodies were identified by around 40 villagers from Marigeta panchayat. Those identified are: Padia Padiami, Ram Kabasi, Irma Padiary, Mangala Padiami and Rama Urmami.

"All the slain Maoists hailed from Marigeta region and were members of Kalimela Dalam," SP Akhileshwar Singh said.

Meanwhile, people in Silakota village are spending sleepless nights fearing retaliation by the Maoists.
