Bodies of six quake victims brought to Assam, cremated

The bodies of six women, killed in the massive earthquake in Nepal, were brought to the state capital today and cremated later.

"The bodies reached Delhi early morning and were flown to Guwahati in the afternoon. Then these were taken to their respective homes," Assam Disaster Management Commissioner and Secretary Pramod Kumar Tiwari said.

In the late afternoon, the bodies were cremated, he added.

The six deceased were Reena Das, Jayashree Bora, Hema Saikia, Bhanita Deka, Bhumika Das and Kalpana Adhikari, who were on pilgrimage to the Himalayan nation.

When asked about how many people of the state have returned from Nepal, Tiwari said "So far more than 100 people have returned. As per our information, around 120 people were in Nepal when the earthquake struck the nation.
