Three persons, including a woman, were found dead beside railway tracks near the Sarojini Nagar railway station in south Delhi today.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the trio, of which two have been identified as Ramesh and Meena, died after allegedly being hit by a train while they were trying to cross the tracks, said a senior police official.

However, the police have yet not ruled out the possibility of foul play, the official said.

Locals found the body around 6.30 AM, following which police was informed. All three persons had severe skull injuries and Ramesh's arm was found severed from his body, the official said.

The police team also found a severely injured person -- later identified as Meena's husband Surajbhan -- sitting at a corner in one of the platforms. Surajbhan, who was in an inebriated state, was rushed to a hospital, said the official.

Once he was declared fit for statement, he helped ascertaining the identities of Meena and his friend Ramesh.

However, the identity of the third person, could not be ascertained yet, said the official.

While Ramesh, was a resident of south Delhi's Moti Nagar, Surajbhan and Meena lived at RK Puram area, the official said.

The bodies of Meena and Ramesh have been sent for postmortem examination.

Investigation is underway and the police needs to question Surajbhan -- who has so far emerged as the only eyewitness in the case -- for more leads into the probe, the official added.
