According to preliminary investigations, while one girl was about 9-months old, another one was around 7-months old, they said.
"Bodies of two baby girls were found in Bindusara river bed today. They were sent to Swami Ramanand Teerth Rural Medical College for post-mortem, which will reveal whether they were killed or died naturally," Superintendent of Police Dattatray Mandlik told PTI.
According to sources, five squads, comprising district officers, doctors and police sub-inspectors, have been formed to carry out further investigations.
All the maternity homes in the city were being probed by the squads from today afternoon in this connection, they added.
DNA samples of the girls would be taken at Swami Ramanand Teerth Rural Medical College, Ambajogai, sources said.
On 16 May, body of a day-old baby girl was found in Shirur tehsil of Beed district and a 28-year-old woman was later arrested by police for alleged infanticide.
