Body of drowned boy recovered

The body of the youth, drowned in the Senki River last evening, was fished out from the river today.

The only son of North East Regional Institute of Science and Technology (NERIST) Deputy Registrar Ranjit Mai was drowned in the Senki River last evening when a group of students from the institute had gone for a picnic trip, Capital SP Devender Arya said.

The body of the 18-year-old youth was retrieved from the river at about 1 AM this morning, he said.

Another youth Jun Gao (20) drowned in Vivek Vihar area here on Saturday, the SP said.

Governor Jyoti Prashad Rajkhowa mourned the death of the two youths in the past two days.
 

Conveying his condolences to the bereaved families, the Governor advised that the district authorities, educational institutions and the department of disaster management must create awareness about the danger of rising water in the rivers, lakes and other water bodies due to heavy rainfalls or otherwise in various parts of the state.

He suggested for signboards in the accident prone locations.

The governor also appealed to the parents and guardians to be extra cautious about their wards in weekends and holidays during rainy season, a Raj Bhawan statement said.
