The body of a former president of a Gram Panchayat, who jumped into backwaters here from a passenger boat, was found today on the coast at nearby Kannamali, police said.
V K Krishnan, 74, a local CPI(M) leader, had gone missing following the alleged suicide bid during the boat journey on Wednesday.
His body was found on the seashore in Kannamali this morning, police said.
The former president of the Elamkunnappuzha gram panchayat allegedly handed over a note to a co-passenger before taking the extreme step.
In the note, Krishnan reportedly accused the local leadership of the CPI(M) of harassing him over the issue of factionalism.
The CPI(M) has rejected the allegations.
Krishnan's body has been handed over to his family members after a post-mortem at the general hospital in Ernakulam, police said.
