Nityananda Biswas (47) of Bangaria village was the ex Panchayet member of Birpur II Gram Panchayat.
SP Sabyasachi Raman Mishra said, "Prima facia, the murder seems to be the fall out of family feud".
The head is still missing but the body was sent for autopsy.
While the local BJP youth leader Sandip Majumder blamed Trinamool Congress behind the murder, they refuted the same and described it as a fall out of family dispute.
