The body of a young girl with her throat slit was recovered by police Saturday from near Begunia town in Khurda district.

Though the deceased is yet to be identified, police suspected that the body might have been thrown on the Tikatala roadside under Begunia police limits.

"We suspect the girl was killed at some other place and her body thrown near Begunia town. There is a deep slit mark on her throat," Khurda SP Dipti Ranjay Ray said.

The SP clarified that there was no sign of sexual assault on the girl before her killing. "The post mortem report will reveal the nature of atrocity on the girl," Ray said.

Angry over the incident, local people staged road blockade on the Khurda-Bolangir National Highway 57 following which vehicles remained stranded for a couple of hours on both sides of the busy NH. Later, the road blockade was lifted after police intervention.
