Body of missing girl recovered from rivernearby Panathur

The body of a four-year-old girl, who had been reported missing under mysterious circumstances at Panathur inthe district since the evening of August 3, was recoveredtoday from a nearby river, police said.

Her decomposed body was recovered at 2.30PM, about two km from her house from Bankupayam river following a joint week long search by the police and locals, Circle inspector Sunilkumar, who headed the Special Investigating Teamformed to trace the girl, said.

Besides the local police, Fire and Rescue Service personnel and Coast Guard, NDRF personnel from Thiruvananthapuram were also pressed into the search operations.

The girl went missing from her house compound atPanathur after she returned from an Anganwadi centre.
 

Police had suspected that the child might have have slipped into the drain in front of her house as her slippers and umbrella were found there.

Earlier, it was also suspected that the girl might have been kidnapped as some villagers had reported citing nomads in thearea on the day.
