The body of a Village Defence Committee (VDC) member was recovered from a riverine area in Udhampur district of Jammu and Kashmir.
The body with multiple injuries was spotted by the people near a Nullah in Karcha village in Pancheri belt of the district yesterday who later informed the police.
A police team rushed to the spot and shifted the body to the Primary Health Centre (PHC) Pancheri where doctors declared him dead.

The police have identified the deceased as 31-year-old VDC member Rattan Chand.
A case has been registered in the incident and investigation has been initiated, police said.
The police added that the body has been handed over to the family members.
Without any formal training or salaries, VDCs were setup by J&K police by arming volunteers to counter heavily armed terrorists in 1992-93 in erstwhile Doda district, now Chenab valley, following number of attacks on minority Hindus.
