An umbrella organisation of Kashmiri Pandits today demanded a status of 'Internally Displaced People' for the community members living outside their homeland and sought an inquiry into what led to their exodus in 1989-90.
All-India Kashmiri Samaj (AIKS), an apex body representing over 60 Kashmiri Pandit organisations world- wide, also batted for creation of concentrated settlements for the community in the Valley.
"The Government of India should initiate steps to set in motion process of declaring community as Internally Displaced People (IDP) as enunciated in the UN Human Rights Charter," Maharaj K Pajan, General Secretary of AIKS, said.
AIKS held its annual general meeting in Amritsar today and passed resolution with regard to various demands of the community.
