About 16,000 persons displaced due to setting up of SAIL's Bokaro Steel Plant in Jharkhand have been provided with employment, Parliament was informed on Monday.
"Land for setting up of Bokaro Steel Plant was acquired by state government through notifications under Part II of the Land Acquisition Act, 1894.
"Directorate of Employment and Training (Employment Wing) of the then State Government of Bihar compiled the number of families displaced at the time of setting up of Bokaro Steel Plant to be 6019," Steel Minister Dharmendra Pradhan informed the Lok Sabha.
In principle, he said, it was agreed to provide employment to at least one member of the displaced family initially and Bokaro Steel Plant has so far provided employment to more than 16,000 displaced persons, which is much more than the number of families originally displaced.
