The official trailer of much-awaited Bollywood romantic-thriller "Bombay velvet", showing Ranbir Kapoor in his first full fledged action avatar, is out today.

The promo of the film that is set in 1960s, shows Ranbir as Johnny Balraj, a boxer, who dreams to make it big in the Maximum City.

Actress Anushka Sharma plays a jazz singer, named Rosie, Johnny's lover.

Filmmaker Karan Johar in his full-fledged Bollywood debut plays the main antagonist, Kaizad Khambatta, who promises to make Johnny a big shot.

The promo glances at Johnny and Rosie's love story, which gets caught in the web of his overgrowing ambitions, fuelled by Khambatta. It has an attractive vintage feel and background score.

The much-delayed Anurag Kashyap-helmed neo-noir drama is Ranbir's first movie after his 2013's not-so-successful venture "Besharam".

"Bombay Velvet" has managed to stay in news, be it for postponing the release date or the controversy surrounding the altered appearance of Anushka's lips. The actress later revealed that she used temporary lip enhancement tools to look her part in the film.

Based on historian Gyan Prakash's book Mumbai Fables, the movie also has Kay Kay Menon and Raveena Tandon. It will theatres on May 15.

The trailer was launched on Star Sports before the World Cup quarter final match between India and Bangladesh.
