Iraqi authorities say two morning bomb attacks on the outskirts of Baghdad have killed six, as the death toll from a wave of car bombings in the capital the night before jumped to 57.

Police and hospital officials say today's attacks included a blast in a market in the town of Taji that killed four and wounded 15. Another bomb exploded outside the house of a local Sunni militia leader in the town of Basmaiya, killing two and wounding four.

The additional casualties reported from yesterday's bombings pushed the number of those killed across the country yesterday to more than 65.

The officials spoke anonymously because they weren't authorized to release the information.
