In a bonanza for people on the New Year eve, the Haryana government today decided to give relief of about Rs 200 per bill to 40 lakh rural and urban power consumers in the state.

The relief, to be effective from tomorrow, will be given to those consuming less than 1600 units of electricity bi-monthly, Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda said.

This will primarily benefit small consumers, he said.

The amount equal to relief given to consumers will be paid by the state government to the Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam and the Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam, he said.

Hooda announced there will be no electricity tariff hike for the next financial year in the state.

The Discoms will file the annual revenue requirement petition before the Haryana Electricity Regulatory Commission accordingly.
