There was a bonhomie between ruling and opposition MLAs in Haryana assembly as it met for the first session here today.
The opening day of the brief session saw oath taking by the MLAs and election of the new Speaker.
Members of treasury and opposition benches were seen exchanging pleasantries.
Opposition INLD MLAs, led by their leader Abhay Singh Chautala, were in their seats nearly 20 minutes before the session commenced at 2 pm.
Haryana Janhit Congress president Kuldeep Bishnoi and his wife Renuka were the next to walk in followed by BJP MLAs who entered the House minutes before the proceedings started.
For the first time in Haryana's history, BJP formed the government on its own after the October 15 elections, winning 47 seats in the 90-member assembly.
With protem Speaker Raghubir Singh Kaidan administering oath to MLAs, majority of them first-timers, members chose different languages including Hindi, Sanskrit, English, Punjabi and Urdu to take their oath.
After a gap of ten years, Congress MLA Bhupinder Singh Hooda walked into the assembly premises as former Chief Minister. He was two-time Chief Minister of Haryana.
As Hooda, who was seated along with former Speaker Kuldeep Sharma among the opposition benches, proceeded to take oath, Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, ministers Ram Bilas Sharma and Capt Abhimanyu got up from their seats and shook hands with the former Chief Minister.
INLD MLAs also exchanged pleasantries with the ruling party members.
Haryana Janhit Congress chief Kuldeep Bishnoi was seated next to former Speaker Kuldeep Sharma, both of whom had been vocal against each other in the past.
All the MLAs present in the House individually went to congratulate BJP MLA from Jagadhri constituency Kanwarpal Gujjar after he was unanimously elected as the new Speaker.
