A book based on A P J Abdul Kalam's last original manuscript, which he had completed just a few months before he passed away in 2015, will be published next month.
In "Pathways to Greatness", Kalam takes up the question: What makes a nation great -- economic prosperity and military strength or something more?
"He says it is only a matter of time before India is termed economically developed. But a nation has to learn to survive in tough times too. And for that what is most important is national character, born out of our value systems," publisher HarperCollins India said.
Kalam described the book as a manifesto for a better human life.
"So far I have written about how our nation can be developed economically, the missions for India's youth, and sometimes about the events in the life of our country. But I felt I had missed something very important.
The idea behind 'Pathways to Greatness' is that economic progress alone does not make a nation great. What is most important is national character, born out of the value systems that exist in our families, what schools teach students, and the culture of the nation," he wrote in the book's preface.
Krishan Chopra, Publisher, HarperCollins, said, "The idea for 'Pathways to Greatness' came up in conversations while Dr Kalam was President. The premise of the book was simple: laws, rules and values cannot be dictated from top down - they have to form part of our own value system.
"It is a book that makes an important point. It would have delighted him no end to see this book make a difference.
