The Faizabad Bar Association today demanded the police to file sedition cases against a group of lawyers for participating in a rally in which anti-national slogans were allegedly raised.

The Bar members handed over a memorandum to the SSP to demand for immediate registration of cases of sedition against the advocates defending the accused in the serial blasts that had rocked Lucknow and Faizabad courts in November 2007.

The association's secretary Satish Shrivastava alleged that the lawyers were leading a protest march last week for Khalid Mujahid, one of the accused in the case who recently died, during which anti-national slogans were raised.

"We have handed over a memorandum to Faizabad SSP demanding the immediate registration of sedition cases against these lawyers," he said.

According to police sources, the SSP has ordered an enquiry into the matter which would be conducted by Faizabad Circle Officer Ravi Singh Sisodia.

Mujahid died on May 18 in Barabanki while being escorted to Lucknow jail after a hearing. He was being brought back to jail after a hearing in a Faizabad court.

Apart from Mujahid, Tariq Qasmi, Sajjadur Rahman and Mohammad Akhtar have been accused in the 2007 serial blasts.
