A bookshop owner was sentenced to 13 years imprisonment by a court for instigating his wife to commit suicide by demanding dowry and torturing her in 2008.

Mahila Court Judge Devadoss sentenced Senthilkumar to 10 years imprisonment for driving his wife to commit suicide and another three years for torturing her, demanding dowry.

He also slapped him with a fine of Rs 6,000.

The sentences would run concurrently, the judge said.

The Judge acquitted his mother and brothers-in-law.
