Botched eye ops:Camp organiser sent to 14-day judicial custody

After his two-day police remand, organiser of the eye camp in which several people lost their eyesight after a botched up cataract surgery, was sent to jail today by a court here.

Judicial Magistrate, Batala, Nidhi Saini, remanded Manjit Joshi to 14-day judicial custody till December 22.

After his police remand ended, Joshi was produced in the court by SHO Ghoman Police Station, Har Kishan.

At least 130 patients, most of them above 60 years of age and having poor economic background, were operated upon for removal of cataract in the three-day eye camp at Ghoman village in Gurdaspur last month.
 

Many of them lost vision due to poor hygienic conditions.
