Bovine smuggling bid foiled, one held in J-K

Police today claimed to have foiled a bovine smuggling bid by arresting an alleged smuggler and rescuing nearly three dozen domestic animals along Jammu- Srinagar national highway in Udhampur district.

Based on reliable information regarding illegal transportation of bovine animals, a police party intercepted two Srinagar-bound trucks near Tikri in Rehmbal of Udhampur on the highway last evening, a police spokesman said.

He said 31 bovine animals were found illegally loaded in the trucks in a very "cruel manner".

The accused driver of one of the trucks, feroz din of Poonch was arrested, while the driver of the other vehicle fled away from the spot and efforts are on to nab him, the spokesman said.
 

He said all the bovine animals were rescued and both the vehicles were seized from the spot.
