Boy crushed to death under the wheel of a school bus

A 15-year-old student was thrown out of his school bus and crushed to death under its wheels when the driver allegedly took a U-turn at a high speed in Jhalamand area here today, police said.

Following the accident, bus driver managed to escape from the spot and enraged locals set the bus on fire after children got down from the vehicle. They also blocked the Jodhpur-Pali highway demanding compensation.

The bus, which was carrying around 98 children against the capacity of 55, was going to drop the students of a public school in nearby Gudha Bishnoian and Khejadli villages.

The driver reportedly took a U-turn without slowing down due to which a Class 9 student, Ashok Bishnoi, who was standing near the door, was thrown out of the bus and came under the wheels near Suraj Petrol Pump, they said.
 

According to ACP Arjun Singh Rajpurohit, the exact cause of accident is yet to be ascertained but said, it seems to be a case of negligence on the part of school administration and driver as the bus was carrying 98 students, way above the seating capacity of 55.

Meanwhile, as the information spread large number of people gathered and blocked Jodhpur-Pali highway and started demonstration demanding immediate arrest of the bus driver.

They were demanding action against school administration and strict compliance of the high court's directions by the police and compensation to the kin, the ACP said, adding the protestors withdrew their agitation after we assured then action.
