A nine-year-old boy drowned after falling into a ditch filled with rainwater near his home in North Delhi area while trying to catch a falling kite, police said today.
Jastin Masih, a class III student at a local private school and lived with his parents at Himgiri apartment near Burari Authority office.
Police said that the boy was playing with his friends when they ran to catch the kite which was falling down. The victim could not see the ditch filled with rainwater and fell into it.

Later, when other children raised an alarm, Justin was taken out of the ditch and rushed to a hospital where doctors declared him dead.
The locals including parents of the boy alleged that the ditch was dug up on the land owned by Delhi Jal Board and demanded action against the guilty officials.
A case of negligence has been registered in connection with the death of the boy on a complaint filed by the parents of the boy. The parents have alleged that it was a negligence on the part of Delhi Jal Board(DJB) and investigation is on to verify whether the land was owned by it or not, said a senior police officer.
However, an official of DJB claimed that the land was handed over to a private discom an year ago.
