The Delhi High Court has sought a reply from the Delhi government and the BSES Yamuna on a plea for over Rs five crore compensation to parents of a boy who was electrocuted from a fallen overhead power line this year.

Justice A K Chawla issued notice to the city government and the BSES Yamuna Power limited on a petition filed by east Delhi resident Devasia Thomas who alleged negligence by Delhi government and the power firm by failing to maintain the fallen overhead non-isolated electric line.

"The reason for the accident was negligence on the part of the respondents No 1 (Delhi government) and 2 (BSES) in maintaining the timely maintenance of electric line as per the guidelines and rules, which resulted in the falling down of the overhead electric line on the ground," the petition filed through advocate Wills Mathews said.

According to the petition, the 12th standard student Robin was electrocuted from a fallen power line near Dilshad Garden on May 21.

The plea alleged that the accident occured due to the illegal and irresponsible omission of the government and the power firm in periodical checking of the conditions of the electric line, and neglecting the rules and regulations regarding supply of electricity.
