An 11-year-old boy was found dead at a state-run rescue home for street children and child labourers in Saidabad area with police probing if he was sexually assaulted.

The boy was found dead on Wednesday. Nail marks were found on his neck, said inspector A Srinvasulu of Saidabad police station.

"The body was handed over to his father today. It has been alleged that a 16-year-old boy at the rescue home killed him after attempting to sodomise him. Autopsy has been conducted and we are waiting for the report," he said.

The police have registered a case of custodial death under the Criminal Procedure Code.

"Once we get the report, likely to be submitted tomorrow, we will proceed accordingly," the officer said.

The director of department of juvenile welfare had yesterday suspended two supervisors of the children's home after the death came to light.
