Tamil Nadu Government today told the Madras High Court that the 16-year-old boy, who suffered bullet injuries after the pistol of a police officer went off while being questioned at a police station on Tuesday, was receiving proper medical treatment.

The submission was made when the boy's mother filed a petition demanding immediate release of the boy besides quality medical treatment to him at a corporate hospital in the city.

A division bench comprising Justice S Rajeswaran and Justice P N Prakash adjourned the matter to January 28 for further proceedings.

In her plea, the boy's mother also sought an inquiry by a district judge-level officer into the "illegal arrest, detention and torture of the boy at the hands of the inspector who allegedly threatened him with a gun."

Inspector Pushparaj involved in the incident had already been suspended. An FIR under IPC Section 338 (causing grievous hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) was also filed against him.
