An 11-year-old boy was injured in an attack by what is suspected to be hyenas in a village under Sariska Tiger Reserve here, officials said.

The victim, Sachin Gujjar, hailing from Madhavgarh village in the core zone of the reserve, was attacked yesterday when he was out grazing cattle in the nearby areas, said Mukesh Saini, Divisional Forest Officer (Rehabilitation), Sariska Tiger Reserve.

He was initially treated at a private hospital here before being shifted to JK Loan hospital in Jaipur, he said. The forest department is taking care of the medical needs of the victim and providing all possible support, Saini added.

Dr Jatin Gusia, a city-based maxillofacial surgeon who is treating the boy, said the victim had required attention for excessive blood loss.

"He has injuries to his face and lips. There are four fractures in the face," Gusia said. While he receives treatment, the victim has not been able to communicate with the officials, he added.

Sariska tiger habitat, is also home to a host of other wildlife, including panthers and hyenas.
