Boy run over by car in Rajasthan

A seven-year-old boy was run over by a car while crossing the Dholpur-Jaipur state highway here, following which locals blocked the road for two hours in protest, the police said today.

The incident occurred when Bhavesh was returning home from agricultural fields with his mother. He died on the spot, Dholpur SP Rajesh Singh said.

He said after the incident, agitated villagers blocked the highway, disrupting vehicular traffic.

The blockade was lifted following intervention by police officials, the SP said, adding the body was handed over to family members after post-mortem.

A case has been registered against the absconding car driver and the vehicle was impounded, the officer said.
