The defense lawyer in Pallavi Purkayastha murder case today argued it was her boyfriend Avik Sengupta who killed her and not Sajjad Mughal, the security guard of her building who was arrested.

Advocate Abdul Wahab Khan, Mughal's lawyer, is currently making his final arugments before the sessions court here.

Police were trying to shield Avik and they framed up his client, he said.

On the day of the incident, Avik and the victim were together till 5 am in the morning and therefore the onus of explaining the injuries on her body fell on Avik, advocate Khan argued.

Avik Sengupta died in November last year.

Khan also pointed out that Pallavi had already told Avik that Muguhal used to ogle at her and yet on the day of the incident she called Mughal to fix the outage at her flat.

Khan will continue his argument tomorrow.

Sajjad Mughal (22), a native of Jammu and Kashmir who worked as a security guard at Himalayan Heights in suburban Wadala, is accused of killing Pallavi, a 25 year-old lawyer, at her flat in the building on August 9, 2012.

Pallavi lived with Avik but he was at work when the murder took place, as per the prosecution.

Police claim Mughal killed her after she resisted his advances while she was alone.
