Governor Ram Naik today said the clash between police and protesting Physical Education degree holders in Lucknow yesterday could have been averted had the government made elaborate arrangement.

"The clash could have been averted had government made elaborate arrangement for the demonstration. No one can held responsible such incident as it happens due to a large crowd," Naik said.

He made these observations while speaking on the sidelines of an event here.

Sixteen policemen and administrative personnel were yesterday injured when a demonstration of BP ED Sangharsh Committee members, demanding government jobs in primary and secondary schools, turned violent.

Police used lathis, tear gas shells and water cannons to control the protesters, who also damaged several vehicles and set government cars on fire outside the state Assembly.

A few journalists present at the spot to cover the incident were also injured.
