Hollywood star Bradley Cooper is in talks with Warner Bros to don the director's hat for the remake of 1937 film "A Star Is Born".

The studio is negotiating with the 40-year-old "American Sniper" star and hopes he also stars in the film, said The Hollywood Reporter.

Music star Beyonce is reportedly being considered for the female lead.

The 33-year-old singer was positioned to play the role of the young woman, whose dreams of stardom are helped by a self-destructive icon whose best days are behind him.

She was circling when Clint Eastwood was going to helm the remake, and the director discussed that male lead role with Cooper. She has not yet been re-approached formally.

Cooper will take a pass at the script with Will Fetters, who wrote the most recent draft.

He also will become a producer on this through Warners-based 22 Green, the banner he shares with Todd Phillips. Jon Peters, Billy Gerber and Basil Iwanyk also are producers.

"A Star Is Born" has already been remade twice, in 1954 with Judy Garland and James Mason, and in 1976 with Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson.
