Around 300 people were rendered homeless as erosion by Brahmaputra river washed away their villages in Morigaon district today morning.
According to Water Resource Department officials, erosion took a grim turn in three riverine villages in Lahorighat and Bhuragaon revenue circles in Morigaon district.
Brahmaputra's water breached the dike at Sahariya and Barukata villages affecting around 35 families.

On the other hand, the erosion breached the main embankment at Jatiyabori village under Lahorighat revenue circle rendering 25 families homeless, officials said.
The homeless people have taken shelter on the nearby highland, while erosion continued to pose a threat to the area.
Meanwhile, Assam State Disaster Management Authority said over 2,500 are hit by flood in Dhemaji district.
Nearly 800 people are taking shelter in two relief camps in the district, besides 225 hectares of crop land are under water.
