'Superman Returns' star Brandon Routh has joined the cast of 'Arrow'.

The 34-year-old actor will appear in the third season in a recurring role as Ray Palmer, also known as DC superhero the Atom, reported Variety.

In the show, Ray becomes the new owner of Queen Consolidated, playing an important role in the lives of Oliver (Stephen Amell) and Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards).

The Atom can alter the size of his body and other objects, and has previously appeared in the Cartoon Network's Young Justice series. It will be the first time he has appeared in a live action project.

Routh previously played DC icon Clark Kent in 2006's 'Superman Returns'. His TV credits include NBC's Chuck and CBS's Partners.
