Brazil's lower house of Congress launched a committee today to consider impeaching President Dilma Rousseff over accusations she manipulated the government's accounts to boost public spending during her 2014 re-election campaign.
In the latest bad news for the leftist leader -- who earlier saw her appointment of embattled predecessor Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva as her chief of staff blocked by a court ruling -- lawmakers created a 65-member committee tasked with recommending whether to impeach Rousseff in the full 513-member chamber.
The final decision would then fall to the Senate.
