The author behind the world-famous Bridget Jones' Diary series has announced the title for her next book as 'Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy'.

Helen Fielding's latest instalment of the trials and tribulations of singleton Bridget will be published on October 10, 2013.

"As a comic writer, Helen is without equal. Over 15 years ago she gave a voice to a generation of young women with the original Bridget book; now they've grown up and she's doing it again in 'Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy' - this time with all the joys and complications of social media," Dan Franklin, publishing director with the book's London publishers Jonathan Cape, said here today.

They have revealed that Bridget, brought to life on screen by Renee Zellweger, is older and still keeping a diary.

Her haphazard character last seen in 'Bridget Jones: Edge of Reason' is now "immersed in texting and experimenting with social media" as she navigates the perils of internet dating.

"A text is gone at the brush of a fingertip, like a nuclear bomb or Exocet missile. Dating Rule No 1: Do not text when drunk," reads an extract from the new book released by the publishers.

"I found last Spring I had new stuff I wanted to say. Things that didn't exist when I last wrote, like emails and texting. The way life is lived through Twitter. And a whole new idea for a phase of her life that I can't jinx by describing it," Fielding had told Radio 4 last year in reference to the new book.

She had also confirmed that Daniel Cleaver and Mark Darcy, Bridget's perennial suitors played by Hugh Grant and Colin Firth respectively in the movies, will be a "presence" in the new books.

The author had revived Bridget for a series of columns in 'The Independent' newspaper seven years ago.

The story concluded with her having a baby boy by Cleaver and inspired a third film with Zellweger, which is due to be shot this year.

Working Title Films confirmed work on the movie, called 'Bridget Jones' Baby', is in development.

'Bridget Jones's Diary' and 'The Edge Of Reason' were both global successes, selling more than 15 million copies.
