Brijesh Kalappa, a familiar face representing the Congress party on national TV channels, has been conferred the rank of Minister of State by the Karnataka government.

He had been appointed as Legal Adviser to the government of Karnataka in March 2015.

Kalappa, a former journalist and alumnus from the National Law School of India University, continues to write on important blog sites, a state government release said here today.

He has been representing Karnataka in the contentious Cauvery, Krishna and Mahadayi water disputes for more than a decade, under the leadership of eminent jurists Fali S Nariman and Anil Divan, it said.

Kalappa had earlier been the only chamber junior of Kapil Sibal and left him to start his independent practise once Sibal became a Minister of the Union Cabinet.

He had earlier been Additional Advocate General of Haryana between 2010-2015, the release said.
