Senior Congress leader Narayan Rane has said his party will not let the upcoming Budget session of the Maharashtra Assembly function till the state government brings all the accused in Bhiwnadi Congress leader's murder case to book.

"We will not not allow the budget session to function till all the culprits are brought to book," Rane told reporters yesterday after meeting the family members of slain leader in Bhiwandi-Nizampura Municipal Corporation, Manoj Mhatre.

Mhatre, 53, was shot at point blank range by a couple of 'masked men' and attacked with sharp weapons on the night of February 14, following which he died.

Police had earlier registered a case against the corporator's cousin Prashant Mhatre (35), who was absconding, and seven others in connection with the killing.

Later, Bhiwandi police had on February 19 arrested Prashant and one more accused.

Condemning the incident, the former state chief minister accused the BJP of "shielding the killers".

Rane further said that the law and order situation under BJP's rule in the state has worsened and that it can be noted that Home department is with the Chief Minister.
