: Tamil Nadu Agricultural University vice-chancellor K Ramasamy today stressed the importance of food safety and Biobased technology and probiotics to control diseases and urged Indian Virological Society to bring out textbooks and course contents on virology for students benefit of students.
He made these points after inaugurating the 23rd National Conference--VIROCON, organised by IVS, New Delhi.
G Bakthavathsalam, Chairman of city based K G Hospital, said microbiology and virology have great scope in future in medicine.

He highlighted the importance of natural plant products in control of virus diseases of human beings and suggested the ways to lead a healthy life by controlling cholestrol, blood glucose level and blood pressure.
TNAU Registrar Rabindran said the university was a pioneer in virus research and research on plant viruses was started since 1962 after establishment of insect proof glasshouse and electron microscope facilities under sponsorship of Rockefeller Foundation, USA
R Jeyarajan,Dr P.Narayanasamy and Dr Sabitha Doraisamy of TNAU were felicitated by IVS for 'outstanding contributions' to virology research.
Prof. Dr Narayan Rishi, Director, Amity Institute of Virology and Immunology, was presented Prof K S Bhargava Award.
Prof. Dr. M.P.Yadav, Secretary, NAAS, Delhi Prof. Dr.A.K. Prasad, President, IVS, Delhi Prof. Dr. Anupam Varma, Adjunct Professor, IARI, Delhi, were conferred with Life Time Achievement Award.
