Set for debut at the 54th Hero Indian Open on the challenging DLF golf course this week, England duo of Andrew Johnston and Chris Wood are relishing their first taste of India.

An avid foodie, Johnston tucked into a veg biryani, the moment he checked into his hotel, while Wood patted his driver for his skills of negotiating the rather unruly traffic as he made his way to the golf course here.

Johnston, also affectionately known as 'beef', said he is depending on his good friend Shiv Kapur to take him out for some Indian dinner.

"It's my first time in India. I'm really looking forward to the week," said the good-natured Johnston, winner of the 2016 Open de Espana.

"I just saw Shiv now and we said that however the tee times are, we will try to work something out. He said he would show me the best places unless I am playing well."

Johnston, who landed in India today, said he had a great experience so far in the country.

"India's been great so far. I got off the plane, came through security, everyone was really friendly, really nice. I couldn't find my golf clubs, asked someone and they pointed me in the right direction. Everyone has been really helpful," he said.

"I went straight to the hotel and ordered the vegetable biryani for breakfast or lunch, I am not sure which. We'll call it brunch. I loved it."

Wood, winner of the 2016 BMW PGA Championship, said he had always wanted to visit India.

"It's my first time in India. We're lucky that we go all around the world and play all of these different golf courses. India has never been a place I've come to, so I've always wanted to come," said the 6ft 6in tall Wood.

"I arrived late last night and my first experience this morning coming to the course was turning into the on-coming traffic, which we don't do at home. That will be something that I will have to get used to this week.
