A young British couple was today found dead in their hotel room in Tajganj area of the city, police said.

According to a report lodged with the police, Oliver Gaskin (28) and Alexandra Gaskin (24) had checked into the private hotel-cum-restaurant last evening.

This morning when the duo did not come out of their room till late, hotel staffers broke open the door and found them dead.

Police said the bodies had froth in mouth and some medicines were found near them. Police suspect that they might have died of a drug overdose.

The office of Senior Superintendent of Police Salam Mathur said senior police officers, including the IG and the DIG, went to the spot after the incident was reported.

The bodies have been sent for post-mortem and a preliminary report is expected later tonight.

The British High Commission in Delhi has been informed of the incident, police said, adding that the couple had arrived in India on July 11.
