British Indian artist and designer Keith Khan is all set to launch an exclusive range of digitally designed sarees for the modern Indian woman.
The silk sarees featuring vector graphic patterns and accompanied by lycra sports-bra style blouses will be unveiled in Mumbai as part of India Design Week in March.
"These have been created for the modern Indian woman, who is very much in touch with her culture but minus all the baggage it comes with," said Khan.
"The designs maintain the integrity of the classic Indian garment but have a more sporty and easy-to-wear look, with the pallu and phall built into the design. The idea is to offer a truly exclusive range, with just 24 saris on offer as part of the launch collection," he added.
Khan will show his collection in Colaba, Mumbai, on March 9.
The sarees will be priced at around Rs 25,000 and will eventually also be available online for a more global audience. The idea is to create a set of limited edition saris around twice a year.
Khan was most recently working as the head of culture for the 2012 London Olympics and is also chief executive of Rich Mixa multi-million pound new-build arts venue in east London opened in 2004.
As the artistic director for the Queen's Golden Jubilee Commonwealth Parade and director of design ceremonies for the Manchester Commonwealth Games, he has been working towards highlighting and enhancing the cultural diversity of Britain.
"My knowledge of India and Indian design is deeply embedded in all my work. I have been waiting for an opportunity to take this back to my roots and this collection is a step towards that," he said.
