Brother kills sibling over mango dispute

A quarrel over mangoes grown in their orchard took a serious turn with a man allegedly killing his elder brother in Bhadrak district today.

Police said Murtanjaya Mallick of Odanga village under Agarapada Police station limit allegedly shot dead his 39-year-old brother Jitendra Mallick after they had quarreled over the mangoes of their ancestral orchard.

The quarrel turned violent when Jitendra attacked Murtyanjaya with lethal weapons prompting the younger brother to fire from his revolver, the police said.

The bullet pierced Jitendra's lower abdomen and he fell unconscious and later succumbed to his injury at the hospital.

Murtanjaya has been arrested and is being interrogated.
