An eight-year-old girl and her minor brother were today killed as lightning struck them at Piparia village near here.
The incident took place this afternoon when they had gone to a forest to collect wood along with their mother and sister amid heavy downpour. Their sister also sustained injuries in the incident, New Katni Junction (NKJ) police station inspector Gayatri Soni told PTI.
The deceased have been identified as Upasana and her brother Kisan (6), she said, adding, the bodies have been sent for post-mortem.
The injured has been admitted to a local hospital. However, their mother was saved as lightning did not struck her, the official said.
A case has been registered in this connection under relevant sections of IPC and investigations are underway, police said.
