Ranjit Singh and his younger brother Sita Singh, whose families reside in west Delhi's Vishnu Garden, lost their lives when a former US soldier opened fire in the gurudwara in Wisconsin last night, in a case of hate crime.

Ranjit had left for the US 16 years ago when his son was just seven months old and had not visited India since then. His family said he was planning to visit the family this Diwali.

His son, 17-year-old Gurwinder Singh, has not seen his father since he was just a toddler.

According to the family, Ranjit had left for the US for job and had never visited India during this time. His younger brother Sita Singh was also killed in yesterday's incident.

"Last night on TV, I heard about the shooting in the gurudwara. I did not think that my father will be among the victims. Only I knew that my father used to go to gurudwara on Sundays.

"This morning I got a call saying that my father is no more," Gurwinder, who has only seen his father in photographs, said.
