Additional Sessions Judge Pawan Jain handed down a five year jail term to Old Delhi residents Shafik and Mohd Shahab for wrongfully confining and torturing Alam, who was employed at their shop in Meena Bazar area, along with his elder brother Shemsher Alam in 2007.
The prosecution case was that Alam, who was then 12 years old, was working at the shop of the convicts for over ten months at a monthly salary of Rs 500. When he demanded his three months due salary, the convicts levelled a false allegation of theft of Rs 50,000 against him.
To make him confess the theft, they confined him in the shop on the intervening night of October 17-18, 2007, pulled down the shutters and beat him up with belts and burnt him with cigarette butts on his chest and arms.
They also made him stand in a water tub and gave electric shocks on his knees, while asking him to hand over the money allegedly stolen by him.
When Alam's 15-year-old elder brother Shemsher reached the shop looking for him, he was also taken in and both were beaten up the whole night.
When terrified Alam told them that he kept his savings with one Mansoor, Shafik and Shahab then called Mansoor, who in turn informed Alam's uncle and police about the incident.

The medical expert said that Alam had sustained 43 injuries, including grievous ones.
"It has already been established that victim Alam was just a 12-year-old at the time of the incident whereas another victim Shemsher was 15 years old. Despite that both the convicts not only confined the victim for the whole night but also tortured them mercilessly", the court said. (MORE) PTI AKI HMP
